Golden Brown Restaurant

Me and my hubby celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary with a lunch date at Golden Brown Restaurant at Ilustre Street, Davao City last December 28, 2010. I would have wanted us to have our date at a restaurant somewhere in Ecoland but it's just too far away. So when we decided that we have to eat just near the downtown area, Golden Brown right away comes to my mind.

We used to frequently eat at Golden Brown when me and hubby were still dating since it is just very accessible to where we usually shop or stroll. I also love their foods and the ambiance is very cozy. The very efficient and approachable waiters is also a big plus when dining at this restaurant.

As usual, hubby ordered his favorite kinilaw while I ordered lechon kawali (deep fried pork belly). We arrived there at around 11:00 o'clock in the morning and we are the first customer. I asked the waiter if I can take photos and he flashed his big smile nodding, saying yes.

Here are some photos I took:

They also have a merienda (snack) buffet available from 2:00 - 6:00 o'clock in the afternoon. The cost is only 85 pesos but look at the buffet table and some few foods already served. It's a heavy snack! Yes, we have tried it before and it's really worth the 85 pesos you'll spend, given the plenty choices of foods they serve.

this is the merienda buffet table and a few foods already served. Only few yet because that was only 11:00 o'clock in the morning and their snack buffet starts at 2:00 o'clock in the afternoon.

Here are a list of some of the Golden Brown specialties:

  • Lechon manok (roasted chicken)
  • pork liempo
  • Bicol express
  • Kalderetang baka
  • sweet & sour fish
  • sweet & sour pork
  • lumpia chin chin
  • beef steak
  • pinakbet
  • crab omellette
  • kilawing kambing
  • boneless bangus
The appetizers:
  • spicy chicken skin
  • kinilaw malasugue
  • calamares

  • sizzling sisig
Noodles:

  • lomi
  • crab lomi

Kwek-Kwek: My Fave Street Food

My fave kwek-kwek

condiments that makes kwek-kwek yummy

Me and hubby were strolling on the streets just having fun to have the "feel" of the pasko fiesta celebration. There are a lot of people on the street. Some are just strolling as well, like us. What I love are the foods. There are many to choose from.

One of my favorite street foods here in Davao City is the kwek-kwek. It's just actually an egg, boiled, soaked in a flour then fried. What makes it delicious is the condiments. It has to be soaked in a yummy spicy vinegar mixed with a little chilli powder to have the spicy taste and a little salt. You can add sliced cucumber or a seaweed which is readily available if you want.

Native Delicacies

When I went to a trade fair in the city hall with hubby, I was amused to find these foods that I have never tasted. Some of the foods look familiar but there are also those that I find really rare. You can never see them sold in malls or department stores. The booth that display those delicacies are owned by our Maguindanao, Tausog and Maranao Muslim brothers. Aside from foods, their booth also showcased some native products made by them.

Hubby, the ever curious one tried to buy some of these foodies and he loves the taste of the sweet ones like dudol . Have a great Saturday everyone. Happy weekend:).

Mer's Food and Delicacies

A mother of one of my office mates died due to hypertension and complication of diabetes so we went to their house and had a prayer service. When we returned home, one of my colleagues suggested that we drop by Mer's Food and Delicacies in Digos City to buy something as pasalubong.

Mer's Food and Delicacies is known for their delicious native delicacies like suman, bebingka and a lot of others. It is located along Lapu-Lapu street, Digos City, just near the city hall. Here are photos of my colleagues buying some yummy native goodies.

Beef Siomai and Beef Brisket at Mandarin

Me and hubby were looking for a notebook yesterday because all we have at home is a desktop PC. I complained to him that I have a hard time surfing and blogging because I still have to go to the other room where the PC is placed. We were canvassing for prices and when it was already lunch time, we would have wanted to eat at Times Square but it was already crowded so we decided to eat at our favorite Mandarin Tea Garden restaurant along Ilustre street. I would have wanted something different but I can't think of any menu that I like. So as usual, we ordered beef brisket rice, beef siomai and mango shake. The supreme siomai which is made of shrimp is more yummy than the one we ordered but since I have an allergy to shrimp, we just settled with the beef siomai.

We had a very yummy lunch and we get out at Mandarin satisfied with a big burp:). Mandarin has branches at SM Mall, Gaisano Mall, Sta. Ana st., near Holy Cross College.

Dining at Dencio's Restaurant at Damosa Gateway

waiting for our order

the menu

Me and hubby was wondering where to eat for our lunch when we were at Bajada last Sunday. So we just thought of exploring Damosa Gateway and look for a restaurant where we can eat. There, we walked past Yellow Cab Pizza and hubby know's it's no-no for me because I need rice for my lunch. I can't take just pizza, I need heavy meal. Then there's the Hola Española and I told hubby we'll just eat there next time coz I know it's a little pricey in there. Oh, there's the McDonald's, hubby's favorite but I told him I'm feed up with fast food chains and eating chicken all the time. We went to Market Basket and we saw Dencio's, one of my favorite restaurants. We right away decided to have our lunch in there. I love their barbecue served with soup and atsara. When we arrived there, we were happy that only few people dined, so that means less waiting time for our order. There are a lot of foods to choose from in the menu like chicken barbecue, seafoods and if you want soup, they have seashells like halaan and inbaw and sinigang. Me and hubby decided t order pares 1 composed of a chicken barbecue, pork barbecue and a pitcher of iced tea. We really enjoyed the delicious juicy barbecue that we had and we returned home full and satisfied with our lunch.

Eating is our only vice:)

Hubby and our fave foods

Kilawin na kambing from Eden's Lechon

Kinilaw from Loring's Restaurant

Me and hubby went to Mintal last Sunday to visit our house. My last visit there was in November, that's when Manny Pacquiao had a fight with Miguel Cotto. In the morning, before heading for Mintal, we decided to eat at Times Square which houses restaurants and fast food chains such as Jollibee, Chowking, Eden's Lechon, Kibuwi, Smoking n' toppings, and a lot of others. It's the most accessible place to the jeepneys that go to Mintal so we dined there. Hubby would have wanted hamburger from Jollibee but I wanted kinilaw and kilawin. I can't get enough of it:). We ate the same food for lunch a day before, so two days in a row that we ate kinilaw and kilawin. For me, it's OK if we indulge in food. Anyways, that's the only vice that me and hubby has, if we may consider it a vice,LOL.
