Green Retail Agenda Participated by Holcim, Smart and Joe Green
Last July 27, SM City Davao once again conducted the Green Retail Agenda dubbed Empowerment through Sustainability. This is the mall’s 3rd GRA which was initiated by the SM Prime Holdings in 2009.
The forum provides a venue for the business sector to showcase their best environmental practices. This is to encourage business players—big or small, to incorporate ‘green practices’ in their operations.
Gracing the said forum were environmental advocate City Agriculturist Leo Avila III, HOLCIM Environment Officer Faye Gerasta, City Organic Farming Coordinator Engr Joselito Tabora, SMART Community Partnerships Program Manager Nova Concepcion and Social Entrepreneur Joseph Castillo.
Avila discussed the impact of global warming to Philippine agriculture while Gerasta presented alternative ways in cement production. Holcim has garnered numerous citations for their environmental programs including the 2010 Presidential Award from Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association.
Engr. Tabora presented the city’s program on organic farming and Concepcion presented PLDT-SMART’s initiatives which involved community partnerships. SMART Communications also partnered with WWF, SM along with other stakeholders for the “Magtanim Tayo” cinema ad—a campaign for the International Year of the Forest.
Completing the list is Castillo who inspired the participants with his passion not only for recycling but for social transformation as well.
“We have put together this Green Retail Agenda with the end goal of equipping the business sector in our efforts to mitigate the effects of global warming and with a message that green indeed is worth it,” says SM Davao Mall Manager Lynette Lopez.
SM Supermalls has incorporated green mall operations through its mall’s architecture and programs on solid waste management, energy efficiency, water conservation and air quality.
