Mama Da's Barbeque Seafood at Ihaw Ihaw

This is the second time I was able to eat at this place. The first time was with my friends and at that time, I forgot to bring my camera. Because of that, I always make sure to bring my camera at all times.

Last Saturday my wifey had a whole day seminar, so after work I haven't decided yet where to eat lunch. So it just in my mince why not Mama Da, I really want to feature their place on this site.

Mama Da's Barbeque Seafood at Ihaw Ihaw is located at Torres St., just near Rizal Memorial Colleges. Its just along the highway so you can spot it easily. If you had no car, it can be accessible via a motor cab, you can either take one near Fairlanes or at Quirino,  Davao Doctors Hospital. Motor cab fair is only 7 Php. The place is owned by Linda Garcia Alonzo of the Nanay Bebeng clan and the Gingerbread Bakeshop.

Viands ranges from 45 to 60 Php, a bit pricey if you were to compare it to a Carinderia, but their serving are plenty and the food taste delicious. You can choose from a variety of dishes, ranging from Humba to Adobo, Fish dishes and vegetables. You just pick want you want to eat, (I mean point hehehe, in Philippines its what we called turo-turo), and the waitress will serve your food on your table.

The place is also nice, it's clean and well ventilated. The place is not air conditioned, if it is I guess their prices would drastically go up. The place though has plenty of ceiling fans to cool you. I went there at noon, and it was hot outside, but inside Mama Da's you can barely notice the heat outside. The place can cater at most 50 persons.

The Clatas occupy a very small territory stretching from Catalunan to Calinan within Davao City. Their traditional population centers included Biao, Tagakpan, Dulian, Sirib, Gumalang, and Tamugan. They are also known as Giangan, with variants like Guangan, Gulangan, or Jangan, that means forest dweller.

The boundary between Tagabawa and Clata was fixed at Lipadas River. Talomo River (ikawayanlinan) served as the boundary among the Tagabawas, Clatas and Obos. Davao River became the boundary between Bagobos and Clatas in the northeast part of Davao. Matina was apparently originally Clatas but they were pushed back by the Bagobos who controlled Toril.

They were also known as Eto, Attaw, and Giangan. Despite the forest dweller appellation, the Clatas who were feared warriors, were also known for their fine artistry.

They wore the most beautiful and colorful clothes in the Gulf.

The Bagobo origin myth of the first man and woman is of Giangan provenance. Tuglay, the Bagobo first man is a Clata word for man and Tuglibong, the Bagobo first woman, is a Clata word for woman.

Witness the Moda Mindanaw 2011

Year after year, Davao’s Moda Mindanaw surprises its avid followers among the fashion industry and the culture and heritage aficionados.

The Moda Mindanaw has indeed gone far—from promoting Davao’s indigenous materials to showcasing Mindanaoan textile and fiber. Moda has now evolved to be a platform for young and vibrant Mindanaoan designers to showcase their craft.

“We want to showcase what is hip and new but still preserve that Mindanaoan identity in the process,” SM Davao mall manager Lynette Lopez says. “We are glad that we are one with the city in this endeavour. Plus, we have confirmed entries from Zamboanga, South Cotabato, Tagum City and the Island Garden City of Samal. That is what makes Moda Mindanaw unique—it’s wide reach.”

This year, apart from the ladies’ street and evening wear, and men’s wear categories, the floral bouquet design competition will also showcase the skills and talents of Davao florists.

“It is always refreshing to see new concepts and ideas from the young,” organizer Oca Casaysay adds. “I am no fashionista but working with talents like what we have (in Davao and Mindanao) is pretty exciting.”

Interested parties may call 297.6998 for inquiries. Sketch proposals will be accepted until August 8, Monday. Top designs will be featured in the Moda Mindanaw Fashion Show set on August 21, 6 PM at SM Davao Event Centre where the final judging will take place.
