Davao Museum

Thanks God it's weekend again! Time to spend again with my family and of course its also time to have a "date" with hubby, hehe. Since I was frustrated with our visit to Museo Dabawenyo because we were not allowed to take photos, I told hubby that we would visit Davao Museum which is located inside Insular Village Phase 1 in Lanang, Davao City. I have never been to this museum and I asked hubby if he had been there also since it's just a stone's throw away from where he grew up and he just laugh saying he'd been there when he was about 9 or 10 riding bycycle but the museum was closed at that time so he really did not get to see what's inside.

While me and hubby were walking towards the museum, I was having lots of questions in my mind. Will they allow us to take pictures of their collections or it will just be another frustration?Do they have many items inside just like the plenty artifacts inside Museo Dabawenyo, the museum we have visited before? How are their items displayed? How is the ventilation inside the museum?

Upon arriving at the museum, we were greeted with warm smiles by two very friendly ladies at the information desk and at the counter, I see a box with money in it so I queried if there is a fee. One lady answered that they charged Php100.00 admission fee for adults and Php20.00 for students. Oh! I don't have money! Hubby joked that we were students and the lady answered they would look for our IDs.(Our faces revealed that we were no longer students,LOL).Then hubby smiled at me, got his wallet and handed a Php200.00 pesos bill to the lady at the information desk. Then they ushered us to their display of pictures at the ground floor and told us that there are lot more items at the second floor!

All my questions were answered when we got inside the museum. We took a lot of pictures and the artifacts are nicely displayed inside a glass cabinets. Although we paid Php200.00, it was worthy because the museum is air-conditioned. We had a great time and had fun!

Museo Dabawenyo

Last weekend, me and hubby visited Museo Dabawenyo (Davao Museum) which is located along Pichon Street (formerly Magallanes St.), Davao City. I was really looking forward to visiting this museum because aside from its accessibility (I pass this street everyday), I am very excited to see the remnants of our ancestors in the past, the richness of the culture of the different indigenous communities that inhabited Davao City. Here are some photos:

Museo Dabawenyo building was formerly the Court for First Instance, restored and rehabilitated. It was established by the City Government of Davao, through the initiative of the 14th City Council under City Ordinance number 0266 - 06 Series of 2006 signed into law by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte on November 15, 2006. It was funded under the Special Education Fund of the Local School Board. First opened to the public during the 71st Araw ng Davao (Davao Day) grand opening celebration on March 14, 2008.

There was this special feeling of joy upon seeing the artifacts inside the museum. It showcased the rich history and diverse cultural heritage of the people of Davao.

But I was really frustrated because we were not allowed to take photos . I asked the lady at the information desk why, and she only said that it's the instruction of the curator. Well, it's the rule so I just took photos in areas where we were allowed to.

Looking for a loyal, cuddly companion? Puppies Here!

I have been going to GS Mall becuase it's very accessible to me for it's the nearest mall to where I work. And I' ve been noticing this guy who sells puppies near the mall's entrance. These puppies are very cutie, cuddly and huggable :). They come in different breeds - dachchund, St. Bernard, Japanese Pitch, Poodle, Pomerinian, and a lot of others. Though they're kindda pricey, I think it's worthy because they are very cutie :))

Thirsty?

After walking and strolling and taking photographs under the heat of the sun at People's Park, hubby and me feel tired and really thirsty so we get inside Gaisano South Mall and look for something to freshen us up. We would have wanted a halo-halo(from Tagalog halo, "mix mix", a popular Filipino dessert that is a mixture of shaved ice and milk to which are added various boiled sweet beans and fruits, and served cold) at Chowking but when we pass through Thirsty foodcart that sells fresh fruit salad and fruit shake, our mind changed. And besides, if we'll have halo-halo, it takes time for us to arrive home because we need to stay in the restaurant, unlike when we buy shake that we can just bring it with us on our way home so we saved time. So we bought mango fruit shake, regular size. We would have wanted a large one but they run out of a large container. Hmmm...yummy!

Penong's Seafood and Grill

Penong's Seafood and Grill in front of People's Park, Ilustre St., Davao City. Other branches are at McArthur Highway, Matina - in front of NCCC Mall, Maa and another one at Quirino Ave. near Gmall

Penong's receive many awards!

I love eating! Who doesn't? haha. I had a lunch date with hubby last Saturday after our half-day work. In the morning while on our way to work, he asked me where we would have our lunch and I joyfully answered "Penongs!" and teased him to treat me. He flashed his big smile and said yes and then count how much are we gonna spend if we are to eat at Penongs. We have been particular with our expenses nowadays because we have a baby whose milk is very expensive and a nanny to pay. Unlike before when we would explore fancy restaurants without minding our expenses.

We agreed to just meet at Penong's Seafood and Grill restaurant at lunch time and I told him that whoever arrives first will have to order our food right away so that we would not be very hungry for we are out at work at 12:oo noon. And besides, we know that Penong's is full of people especially during peak hours.

When I arrived, there are already lots of diners so I searched for hubby then I saw somebody raised his hand and it was him smiling at me. After a few minutes, our food arrived -inato 1 composed of soup, chicken barbeque with achara (green papaya salad), rice.

It's the taste of their chicken that makes me and hubby keep going back to Penong's. It is juicy and super delicious. And their rice is unlimited. All you have to do is clap your hands twice to get the attention of the waiter who brings with him rice. Aside from chicken barbeque which is their bestseller, they also serve other dishes such as kinilaw(it's like sushi), bulalo(beef), lengua estofada, catfish - either fried or grilled, halaan (a kind of seashell) and many others. We get out at Penongs full and had that big burp! hehe

People's Park in Davao City

When I was on my third trimester of my pregnancy, I rarely go out because I felt so heavy. And when my daughter arrived, the more that I became a homebody because I was tied up with babysitting, breastfeeding and all that. I was not able to do things like I usually do before...when I was still single, that is :). That's how my life changed when I got married and when I had my baby....the trade offs, hehehe.

Since I resume to work from my two-month maternity leave, I've been able to go out for lunch or dinner, go malling at times, attend some parties. But of course with a limited time because my daughter and hubby becomes my priority this time. Unlike before when my time was all mine :)).

I am happy that last weekend me and hubby was able to visit People's Park here in Davao City. It is the newest, most visited park in the city as of this time. And it is situated right in the heart of Davao City which makes it accessible to everyone.

Here are some photos of People's Park:

When you are tired and feel like resting , you can relax inside these huts which are strategically scattered in the man-made rain forests. So cool, a hut in the middle of the woods, (;_;)

You can see a lot of sculptures inside the park. These sculptures depict the lives of the people in Davao City in olden times. Through these works of art, you will know the ways of life and the culture of the DavaoeƱos.
